The Moon brightens the evening sky this week, waxing to the Full phase by the week’s end. The Full Snow Moon occurs on February 2nd at 12:45 am Eastern Standard Time. Also known as the Hunger Moon or the Wolf Moon, February’s Full Moon is perhaps the direst of the year’s name sequence in skylore. Luna spends the week coursing through the bright stars of the Great Winter Circle. On the evenings of the 26th and 27th she flanks the Pleiades star cluster. On the 28th she lies about three degrees west of the bright star El Nath, which forms the tip of the northern horn of Taurus, the Bull. On the 30th and 31st the Moon glides past the Twin Stars of Gemini, Castor and Pollux. Finally, on the evening of the 2nd, Luna lies just two degrees east of golden-hued Saturn.
